Photograph Gallery Stage 72 Stowford to Five Lanes
Photograph Gallery Stage 72 Stowford to Five Lanes, Thursday 4th August 2011
The Story:
After the excitement of yesterday this stage was destined to be less inspiring and the weather knew it. Strolling Steve and I woke to a dismal cloud filled sky with drizzle falling. Only the superb breakfast and courteous service perked us up for the task in hand, a walk of 17 and a bit miles toward Bodmin Moor. And so it proved with the first stage of four miles to Lifton on road and track being ok but nothing special. From Lifton to Launceston there was no improvement in weather and a decline in track as we walked a major road footpath then byways to the town which provided the first good views of the day including its high hilltop castle. A significant milestone was reached here though, we crossed into Cornwall, the last county of the journey. Yippee!
In Launceston we took a break then continued on 80% road, 20% tracks and fields to Five Lanes. Views were ok, traffic light bar a difficult half mile along a highway. The only other moment of significance was fending off boisterous young male cows in a field. Fortunately Bodmin Moor is in sight, immediately attained tomorrow. Today was forgettable.
Strolling Steves Daily Statistics:
Scenery: 5/10 – Nothing special.
History: 3/10 – Not easy to find.
Interest: 3/10 – Quite a boring walk really.
Track: 2/10 – Too much road.
Comment: I guarantee a more rewarding walk tomorrow.
