The Story:
After the wondrous day we had walking yesterday Strolling Steve and I endured our worse days walking since crossing the Scottish border into England. This will be a short report, for that I do not apologise, and you will understand why in the following paragraph.
We followed the Staffordshire Way all day. It was overgrown in most places, it was not maintained, stiles were everywhere, some broken and some with exposed electric fence across them. Signs were old and decrepit, barbed wire boxed us in on narrow field edge crossings, bulls were in fields on the track, farmers had moved the way to suit themselves and to cap it all some large organisations admitted they discouraged the use of the Staffordshire Way, instead favouring their own trails. Strolling Steve and I were disgusted.
Credits for the day. Some lovely houses, some neat villages and our final mile to Rugeley on the Trent and Mersey canal.
That’s it.
