The story:

As is usual for a Sunday I fancied a bit of a stroll. This one, only a mile or two long would take me from north to south of Ullapool and although the stage of my 1000 mile walk is short I hold no guilt for there are some remote mountain days to come in the week ahead. I left my home for the night in Morefield and followed the track from the house to the high road. As I left the rain came once again, the sneaky precipitation was lying in wait, it cannot fool me anymore. After a downhill walk of a mile in which I saw little for my head was down underneath my hood looking at my feet (I know them so very well now) I cut into a path to follow the Ullapool woodland and riverside walk. For the next half mile I was in rapture. In preparation for the 1000 mile walk I had missed out on the Yorkshire Bluebells and thought I was not going to see any this year. Wrong, they were in prolific show in the woodland of Ullapool and I spent an half hour of joy following the woodland tracks in the midst of Bluebells everywhere. Not fading Bluebells either, these were in full glorious show and it is clear the Bluebells of northern Scotland will continue to provide wonderful colour for the locals into June. The woodland also provided another comfort for me as the tree canopy kept the persistant soaking rain from me for the brief time I was on the woodland & riverside path.

On leaving the woodland and riverside path, which many unfortunate visitors to Ullapool will miss out on (do look for it if you come, it is to the north of the town) I followed the white building streets to town where I found a cafe and hurried into for a pot of Earl Grey and a dry out, a luxury I will not see now until at least Wednesday now as I have two days of camping ahead of me in nowhere land. After today that is. I am now in my Ullapool B&B, writing this report then plotting my way through the next three days.
